How do you join the NMA?

The NMA is an open organization that has members throughout the United States. However the main body of members are from the New York State area and most events are held there. The NMA welcomes as many people as possible to participate in any way they can. Be it attending events, contributing to our research or interacting through web discussions.

Those interested in the NMA do not formally join at the outset. They participate in NMA sanctioned activities and at a point they feel comfortable request to start on the path to become a living historian through the NMA skill levels.

You can fill out the Membership Info Form we will send you an introductory packet in the mail if you request one.   Upon attending your first NMA event a membership application will be made available for you to fill out.  Most applications are accepted and approved at major NMA events that a Commander is present.

What requirements are there to join?

Why has the attire, etc of members changed over time?

The NMA is dynamic and ever trying to increase the authenticity of their attire, encampments, weapons, tools, etc.  In order for others to learn we are not ashamed to show and discuss our mistakes.  Some of the photos and text on this site are from the infancy of the organization.  In some of the earliest events you will see major errors in attire and our approach to certain things.  We have only benefited from our experiences and hope others can also.
